Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at measuring the effect of using YouTube video media toward student’s writing skillof animal descriptionat the eighth gradeof MTs N 2 Palangka Raya. In this study, it is used quasi-experimental design. There were two groups in this study, control group (VIII G) which consists of 32 students and experiment group (VIII H) which consist of 32 students. In this experiment, the writer taught the students directly with the same material. Therefore, the use of YouTube video media was applied on experiment group only, and for the control group the writer applied Picture media. To examine the hypothesis, the writer used t-test formula. In addition, the writer used SPSS 21.0 program to compare the data.

The result of t test using manual calculation showed that the calculated value (t observed) was greater than t table at 5% significance level or 2.000<4,914. The result of t-test using SPSS 21.0 calculation indicated that the calculated value (t observed) was also greater than t table at 5% significance level or 2.000 <5,502. This indicated that the alternative hypothesis stating that using YouTube video media gives effect toward students’ writing skill of animal description at eighth grade in MTs N 2 Palangka Raya was accepted and the null hypothesis stating that using YouTube video media does not give effect toward students’ writing skill of animal description at aighth grade in MTs N 2 Palangka Raya was rejected. Therefore, teaching writing animal description using YouTube video media at the eighth grade of MTs N 2 Palangka Raya was effective at 5% significance level.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur efek penggunaan media video YouTube terhadap kemampuan siswa menulis mendeskripsikan binatang pada siswa kelas delapan di Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Palangka Raya. Dalam penelitian ini, ini menggunakan kuasi-eksperimen desain. Ada dua kelompok dalam penelitian ini, kelompok kontrol (VIII G) yang terdiri dari 32 siswa dan kelompok eksperimen (VIII H) yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis mengajar para siswa secara langsung dengan bahan yang sama. Namun penggunaan media video YouTube diterapkan pada kelompok eksperimen saja, dan untuk kelompok kontrol penulis menggunakan media gambar. Untuk menguji hipotesis, penulis menggunakan rumus t-test. Selain itu, penulis juga menggunakan SPSS 21.0 program untuk membandingkan data.

Hasil t test menggunakan perhitungan manual menunjukkan bahwa nilai yang dihitung (t-test) lebih besar dari t-tabel sebesar pada tingkat signifikansi 5% atau 2,000 < 4,914. Hasil t-test menggunakan program SPSS 21,0 perhitungan mengindikasikan bahwa nilai yang dihitung (t-hitung) juga lebih besar dari t-tabel pada 5% atau tingkat signifikansi 2,000<5,502. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif menyatakan bahwa menggunakan media video YouTube memberikan efek terhadap kemampuan siswa menulis mendeskripsikan binatang pada kelas delapan di MTs N 2 Palangka Raya diterima dan hipotesis nol yang menyatakan bahwa menggunakan media video YouTube tidak memberikan efek terhadap kemampuan siswa menulis mendeskripsikan binatang pada kelas delapan di MTs N 2 Palangka Raya ditolak. Oleh karena itu, mengajarkan penulisan teks deskriptif menggunakan media video YouTube pada siswa kelas delapan di MTs N 2 Palangka Raya adalah effektif pada tingkat signifikansi 5%.
