Abstract

The purpose of this research to measure effect of whole class interactive teaching method on speaking fluency at the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Dusun Hilir. The problem of study was “Is there significant effect of whole class interactive teaching method in teaching speaking skill at the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Dusun Hilir?

The type of this study was pre- experiment research, the design of this study was experiment design. There were two class. Class A to try-out and class B as experiment class, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The total number of experiment class B were 24 students. In this study writer used inter-rater. Writer was helped by English Teacher at SMPN 1 Dusun Hilir as first tester for try-out, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Second rater was writer myself. The writer gave try-out to class A after that writer gave pre-test to class B and then writer gave treatment by whole class interactive teaching after that writer gave post-test. To calculated hypothesis, writer used manual calculation and SPSS 16.00 program to support manual calculation.

The result of manual calculation and SPSS 16.00 program showed the value tobserved was bigger than ttable at error level 5%, 2,07 < 2,650 < 2,81 but, more little error level at 1 %. This indicated the result of hypothesis, Ha there was significant effect of whole class interactive teaching method in teaching speaking skill at the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Dusun Hilir was accepted and Ho there was not significant effect of whole class interactive teaching method in teaching speaking skill at the seventh grade students at SMPN1 Dusun Hilir was rejected.
