Abstract

This Research Focus on Total Physical Response being the right method to to teach English for mental retardation students, because students can hear and see the movement of the material being taught teachers and also students become more active in class by following the movements of the teacher explains.

The research uses descriptive qualitative design. The study was conducted in grade IX SMPTR SLBN 1 Palangka Raya, research data obtained by observation, interviews and questionnaire to one teacher an 10 students of class IX Mental Bacwardness.

The result obtained is that be influence of the TPR method to mental retardation children in learning English is very good in helping students understand the lessons and make them move active in learning the English language.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini berfokus pada Total Physical Response menjadi metode yang tepat untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris bagi siswa keterbelakangan mental, karena siswa dapat mendengar dan melihat pergerakan materi yang diajarkan guru dan juga siswa menjadi lebih aktif di kelas dengan mengikuti gerakan guru menjelaskan. .

Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian dilakukan di kelas IX SMPTR SLBN 1 Palangka Raya, data penelitian diperoleh dengan observasi, wawancara dan kuesioner kepada satu guru dengan 10 siswa kelas IX Mental Bacwardness.

Hasil yang diperoleh adalah bahwa pengaruh metode TPR terhadap keterbelakangan mental anak dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sangat baik dalam membantu siswa memahami pelajaran dan membuat mereka bergerak aktif dalam belajar bahasa Inggris
