Abstract
This paper is an analysis of Hamka Haq's thoughts related to gender justice. Gender justice can be interpreted as equal rights and dignity between men and women. In fact, in Islamic history, the position of men was considered more important than women, such as in terms of inheritance and leadership. Yet according to Hamka Haq Islam in the text of the Qur'an it never even mentions that the dignity of men is above the dignity of women. Islam provides proportionally equal opportunities for men and women to fulfill balanced rights and obligations in their lives. There is no type that has to occupy the first and second positions, all are equal before God. Men and women have equal opportunities to obtain muttaqin degrees, excel in education, leadership, business, inheritance, and so on as long as they do not sacrifice their nature as men and women. According to Hamka Haq, the doctrine of these differences can actually be
compromised because of the nature of Islamic law itself which is flexible and can be conditioned according to the needs of when and where the law is enacted so that what is meant by sharia (maqashid sharia) is achieved.
