Abstract

The phenomenon of using illegal cosmetics is something often happens in society, especially in this study among students of the Sharia Faculty of IAIN Palangka Raya. The focus of the research is the student's understanding of illegal cosmetics use in Sadd Adz-Dzari’ah. The type of research used is empirical legal research with a socio-legal research approach. The research data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation methods and analyzed using Sadd Adz-Dzari’ah theory. Based on the results of the data analysis, the authors conclude that students of the Sharia Faculty of IAIN Palangka Raya tend to understand the use of illegal cosmetics but in the practice, their understanding does not make them free from the use of illegal cosmetics. Cosmetics without a distribution permit from BPOM cannot be known with certainty regarding the ingredients, cleanliness, and safety so it can have a bad effect on users. Therefore, if it is associated with Sadd Adz-Dzari’ah, the illegal use of cosmetics must be stopped.
