Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out and analyze the Merry Christmas and New Year greetings from the perspective of Aswaja. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of library research. Sources of data in this study are in the form of documents such as books or books, research articles, and other readings related to the research topic. The data analysis technique used is content analysis followed by data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results of this study have shown that the celebration of the Christian New Year is not an Islamic tradition. The new year is also very closely related to Christian religious beliefs which are based on the year the Prophet Isa was born. Regarding Christmas greetings, scholars have different views regarding whether these greetings are permissible or not, because there is no clear argument about whether they are permissible or prohibited. Those who are reluctant to say Merry Christmas have a basis, as well as those who do. Meanwhile, according to some other scholars, the reason, among other things, is that there is no argument against it and simply wishing Merry Christmas does not mean acknowledging the truth of the Christian religion which results in the automatic apostasy of a Muslim
