Abstract

Islam has taught every parent to meet the nutritional needs of their baby by giving breast milk (Air Susu Ibu). In the thematic interpretation, breastfeeding for two full years is in accordance with the command in Al-Baqarah verse 233. Meanwhile, in the scientific interpretation, it is stated that the period of perfect breastfeeding is twenty-one months. This literature research with an epistemological approach tries to reveal the sources, methods and validity of the two interpretations that will be appointed. The conclusion shows that thematic interpretation directs the source of its interpretation to the Qur’an and hadith, texts, reason and empirical reality, which is focused on views on a particular theme. Regarding the preparation of thematic
interpretations, the breastfeeding period is two years. As for the scientific interpretation of scientific interpretation, which collects verses related to certain themes, and science, sources ofscientific interpretation of the Qur’an and hadith texts, reason and empirical reality, etc., state that the breastfeeding period is only for 21 months.
