Abstract

ABSTRACT

The study was aimed at measuring the effect of BPDS on the students’ critical thinking ability at 3rd semester of English Education state islamic institute of Palangka Raya.. The problem of the study was’’ Is there significant effect of British Parliamentary Debate system on studnets’ critical thinking at state islamic institute of Palangkaraya academic year 2015-2016?’’

The type of the study was True-Experimental, pre-test and post-test; the design of the study was quantitative approach to find out the problem of the study There were two classes becoming sample, they were class A as the experimental group and B as the control group, and the total number was 37 students. The researcher gave a pre-test to gain the first students’ critical thinking score. After gaining the pre-test score, the researcher gave treatment by BPDS to the experimental group, while gave discussion to the control group. After that, the researcher gave post-test to the both classes.To examine the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula. In addition, the researcher used SPSS 16.0 program to compare the data.

The result of t test using manual calculation showed that the calculated value (tobserved) was greater than ttable at 5% and 1% significance level or2.030 <3,434>2.724. the result from SPSS program was 2,030<3,409>2,724.This indicated that the alternative hypothesis stating there is significant effect of BPDS toward student’ critical thinking at third semester English Education State islamic institute Palangka Raya was accepted and Ho stating that there is no significant effect of BPDS on students’ critical thinking ability at third semester English Education State islamic institute Palangka Raya was rejected.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur efek penggunaan BPDS untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa semaster 3 bahasa inggris di IAIN Palangka. Masalah penelitian adalah’’ apakah ada dampak signifikaon dari BPDS terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa di IAIN Palangka Raya?’’.

Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan true-eksperimen desain, khususnya desain pengacakan,kelompok kontrol, pra-uji, pasca uji dan peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif untuk menemukan jawaban dari penelitian.Terdapat dua kelas yang menjadi sampel penelitian, yaitu kelas A sebagai group experiment dan B sebagai group kontrol. Dan jumlah keseluruhan adalah 37 siswa. Kedua kelompok diberikan pra-uji untuk memperoleh nilai pertama siswa. Setelah mendapatkan nilai pra uji, siswa di kelompok eksperimen diajarkan dengan metode BPDS sementara memberikan diskusi kelas kepada kelompok kontrol. Kemudian, peneliti memberikan pasca uji kepada kedua kelompok experimen dan kontrol untuk memperoleh nilai akhir mahasiswa.Untuk menguji hipotesis, peneliti menggunakan rumus t-test. Selain itu, peneliti juga menggunakan SPSS 16,0 program untuk membandingkan data.

Hasil t-test menggunakan perhitungan manual menunjukkan bahwa nilai yang dihitung (t-test) lebih besar dari t-tabel sebesar pada tingkat signifikansi 5% dan 1% atau2.030<3,434>2.742. Hasil t-test menggunakan SPSS 16,0 2.030<3,409> 2.742. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternative menyatakan bahwa BPDS memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap kemauan berpikir mahasiswa bahsa inggris semster 3 di IAIN Palangka Raya diterima dan hipotesis nol yang menyatakan tidak ada dampak BPDS terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa semester 3 di IAIN Palangka Raya ditolak
