Abstract
The objective of the study was to measure the effect of four square technique towards coherence development of descriptive paragraph at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
The study included in quantitative research with Quasi Experimental Design. The writer design the lesson plan, conducted the treatment and observed the students’ score by pre test and posttest. The population of the study was the eighth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya which consisted two classes. The writer took all students of two classes as sample of the study. The sample were determined using cluster random sampling technique.
The data were analyzed using ttest formula to test the hypothesis stated based on the result of analysis, it was found that the value of tobserved 4.651 with ttable=2.021 at 5% level of significance and ttable=2.704 at 1% level of significance with degrees of freedom=43. It showed that tobserved was higher than ttable. The result of testing hypothesis determined that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) stating that there was significant effect of Four Square Technique towards coherence development of descriptive paragraph at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.was accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) stating that there was no significant effect of Four Square Technique towards coherence development of descriptive paragraph at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.was rejected. It meant that there was significant effect of Four Square Technique towards coherence development of descriptive paragraph at of SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
It is recommended for the teacher to use Four Square Technique for teaching English in writing especially descriptive paragraph.
ABSTRAK
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur apakah ada pengaruh yang berarti dalam menggunaan Four Square Technique efek menggunakan four square technique terhadap pengembangan pertalian paragraph deskriptip di Smp Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain Kuasi Eksperimental. Penulis menyusun rencana pembelajaran, memberikan perlakuan dan mengobservasi skor siswa dengan Pra-uji dan Pasca-uji. Populasi dari studi ini adalah murid kelas delapan (VIII) SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya yang tediri dari 6 kelas. Penulis memilih dua kelas delapan yaitu VIII-1 dan VIII-2 sebagai sample. Sample tersebut ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik cluster sampling.
Data tersebut dianalisis menggunakan rumus ttest untuk menguji hipotesis yang telah ditetapkan.
Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa nilai dari tobserved 4.651 dan ttable=2.021 pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan ttable= 2.704 pada taraf signifikansi 1% dengan derajat kebebasan=43. Hasil dari Pengujian Hipotesis menentukan bahwa Hipotesis Alternatif (Ha) yang menyatakan bahwa belajar menulis menggunakan Four Square
Technique memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap murid kelas delapan (VIII) SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya telah diterima dan Hipotesis Nihil yang menyatakan bahwa belajar menulis menggunakan Four Square Technique tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap murid kelas delapan (VIII) SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya telah ditolak. Ini berarti bahwa belajar menulis menggunakan Four Square Technique memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap murid kelas delapan (VIII) SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
