Abstract

The principle purpose of the research students achievement are to identify some problems as follows: What is the students vocabulary achievement taught by using TPR? What is the students vocabulary achievement taught by using picture chart? Which one is more effective teaching vocabulary by using Total Physical Response or picture chart? The purpose of this study are: To find the students vocabulary achievement taught by using TPR; To find the students vocabulary achievement taught by using picture chart; To measure effectiveness teaching vocabulary by using Total Physical Response or picture chart.
The population of this study were all the seventh grade students at MTSN 2 Palangka Raya and for the subject, and the technique to took the sample is used cluster sampling, so that two class as a treatment were VII-D and VII-E, it was consist of 35 students in every class. In this research the writer used quantitative approach and to collect the data is used a test, to know the validity, realibility and index difficulty the writer gave try out and the students could answer as many as 56 items from 100 items test and to find the hypothesis, the writer used t-test formula.
The result mean of teaching vocabulary before applying total physical response was 31,02 and after applying total physical response was 67,96, and the result of teaching vocabulary before applying picture chart was 19,6 and after applying picture chart was 60,93. Another hand of teaching vocabulary using total physical response, there were 88,57% or 31 students that master vocabulary and 11,43% or 4 students that fail achieved vocabulary. And the achievement of teaching vocabulary using picture chart, there were 65,71 % or 23 students that master vocabulary and 34,29% or 12 students that fail achieved vocabulary.
Teaching vocabulary using total physical response was more effective than using picture chart. It can be seen from the mean of post test, the comparison of the member of students who master and not master vocabulary between using total physical response and picture chart and the result of hypothesis where trable = 2,00 and to (TPR) = 2,35 it seen that to is higher than trable so Ha accepted and Ho rejected. It means there is significance effective of teaching vocabulary of the students between using Total Physical Response and Picture Chart.
