Abstract

The implementation of the Burdah Keliling tradition is a tradition that is often found in Indonesia. If you look at its history, this traveling burdah tradition has its own background according to the area of its implementation. Usually the traveling burdah tradition is carried out on Wednesdays at the end of the month of Shafar. However, in Pagatan village itself this activity is carried out during the Islamic New Year and New Year’s Eve. The views of religious leaders and Muslim communities on the traveling burdah tradition which is held onthe Islamic new year in Pegatan village is a tradition carried out from generation to generation which is the result of acculturation of Islamic and local culture. In this itinerant Burdah tradition, local elements are clearly visible in the form of belief in spirits which is warded off by a prayer to reject reinforcements. By holding a traveling burdah tradition in the Islamic New Year, it is hoped that the Pegatan village and its people will be protected from harm, disease outbreaks and fire accidents. The people of Pegatan village believe that every turn of the Islamic new year will bring new changes for the community and the village. The purpose of holding Burdah Keliling on this Islamic New Year is to enliven the coming of the Islamic new year and dispel bad luck so that the next year will be kept away from various disasters and diseases.
