Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to describe and to reconstruct about the process of Islamization in South Blitar after the event of Communism in 1968-1975. When the Communist party was declared a forbidden party after the coup they carried out, the rest of the sympathizers are running away to the desolate places. They try to rebuild their power by influencing the society using their various propaganda, including in South Blitar. Their existence has ended when the government conducted a military operation in the South Blitar area in 1968. After this event, the government started the Islamization’s program. The research method used in this study is the historical research method with four stages. The four stages of historical research method are heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This study concludes that Islamization in South Blitar showed positive results when the majority of the people in there became Moslem. This success of the Islamization is the result of the efforts of Islamic teachers and Santri (students from Islamic boarding school). The Islamization cultural method used is also became the key of the success of this Islamization. So, Until this time, Islam became the majority religion in South Blitar.
