Abstract

Online learning carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decline in the ability to understand mathematical concepts for elementary school students. The purpose of this study is to describe how online learning causes a decrease in the ability to understand concepts. This research is a qualitative descriptive study involving 26 students and a class VI MIN 4 East Lampung teacher. Data collection techniques using interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out through three stages, namely reduction, display, and data verification. The results of this study indicate that the decline in the ability to understand mathematical concepts in elementary school students is influenced by the application of online learning, including limited student meetings with teachers directly, interaction between students and teachers who are not optimal, lack of student learning assistance, lack of independence of students studying at home, and characteristics of mathematics learning. Thus, online learning has a negative impact and hinders the improvement of elementary students' mathematical abilities
