Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the students’ perception toward the use of Bahasa Indonesia by lecturers in English classroom at IAIN Palangka Raya.

This research used quantitative method to collect the data. The population of this research was the English Department students’ of the fourth semester on the academic year 2017/2018 at IAIN Palangka Raya which consisted of 60 students as the sample for the questionnaire. The researcher used 3 classes A, B, and C. This research belonged to survey research. The technique of collecting the data used questionnaire. In analyzing the data, some procedures were used such as collecting, reduction, displaying, and conclusion data.

The result of this research showed that: Most of the students had positive perception or “agree” toward the use of Bahasa Indonesia by Lecturer in English classroom with the final result was 66.2 % and the categorized Agree, based on question that students’ perception toward the use of Bahasa Indonesia by Lecturers in English classroom. The students considered Bahasa Indonesia as a tool to help them study English better, especially in giving questions to the lecturers when they do not understand.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan Bahasa Indonesia oleh Dosen dalam kelas Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka Raya.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif untuk mengumpulkan data. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris semester 4 tahun akademik 2017/2018 di IAIN Palangka Raya yang terdiri dari 60 mahasiswa sebagai sampel untuk kuesioner. Penelitian menggunakan 3 kelas A, B, dan C. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian survei. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner. Dalam menganalisis data, beberapa prosedur digunakan seperti mengumpulkan, mereduksi, menampilkan, dan menyimpulkan data.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif atau "setuju" terhadap penggunaan Bahasa Indonesia oleh Dosen di kelas bahasa Inggris dengan hasil akhir adalah 66,2% dan dikategorikan Setuju. Mahasiswa menunjukkan bahwa Bahasa Indonesia aalah sebagai alat bantu mereka belajar bahasa Inggris dengan lebih baik, terutama ketika mereka akan bertanya kepada dosen tentang materi yang tidak mereka mengerti.
