Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at finding out and analyzing the type of noun phrase, function of noun phrase, usage of noun phrase based on Transformation Generative Grammartheory introduced by Noam Chomsky, and meaning of noun phrase. It used the one of famous novel entitle is Percy Jakson and the Sea of Monster written by Rick Riordan.

The method of this study is qualitative design and content analysis as a type of this method. The data of the research are noun phrase that is found in the novel.

The results of this study are found out type of noun phrase, function of noun phrase, the usage of noun phrase usedtransformational generative grammar, and meaning of noun phrase. The type of noun phrase is divided into seven types, they are common noun, noun phrase introduced by determiner and genitives, noun phrase introduced by quantity word, bare noun phrase noun phrase introduced by a or an, a special possibility for proper noun, and some special combined forms. The function of noun phrase is divided into eight functions, they are as a subject, as direct object, as an indirect object, as a subject complement, as a object complement, as complement of a preposition, pre modifier of noun phrase, and adverbial. The usage of noun phrase used transformational generative grammar is analysis divided sentence into smaller and smaller constituents until only words are left. Meaning of noun phrase used contextual translation, because meaning of this phrase adjusts with the sentences that build with other phrase.

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menggambarkan tipe frase kata benda, fungsifrase kata benda, makna, dan analisis menggunakan teori transformational generative grammar yang diperkenalkan oleh Noam Chomsky. Penelitian ini menggunakan salah satu novel terkenal yang berjudul Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monster karya Rick Riordan.

Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif design dan konten analisis sebagai tipe dari metode ini. Data dari penelitian ini adalah frase kata benda yang di temukan di novel.

Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah menemukan tipe frase kata benda dan fungsi frase kata benda. Tipe frase kata benda terbagi dalam tujuh tipe, mereka adalah common noun, noun phrase introduced by determiner and genitives, noun phrase introduced by quantity word, bare noun phrase noun phrase introduced by a or an, a special possibility for proper noun, and some special combined forms. Fungsi frase nomen terbagi dalam delapan fungsi, mereka adalah sebagai subjek, sebagai direct object, sebagai indirect object, sebagai subject complement, sebagai object complement, sebagai complement of a preposition, pre modifier of noun phrase, and adverbial. Pemakaian frase kata benda menggunakan transformational generative grammar adalah menganalisis kalimat dengan membaginya menjadi lebih kecil dan semakin kecil sampai hanya kata-kata yang tersisa. Makna dari frase kata benda menggunakan terjemahan kontekstual, karena makna dari frase ini menyesuaikan dengan kalimat yang akan di buat dengan frase lainnya
