Abstract

This study aims to find out whether there is any significant effect of using ICT based (WhatsApp) Group toward students’ ability and learning students’ motivation in writing skill at Fourth Semester English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya 2017/2018 academic years. For the data collection, it was used the instruments such as written test and questionnaire. The population of the study was the Fourth Semester English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya, with a sample of 46 students it is very representative data required. To analyze data, used One-Way ANOVA by describing the results of the data obtained.
The results of this research on how students produce an argumentative essay. There are several ways that students did write a paragraph based generic structure (1) in pre-writing step. Students of an experimental group already install WhatsApp Messenger on their mobiles. (2) in the drafting step. Students main focus is on generating ideas through using brainstorming and gathering information, that is putting ideas on WhatsApp group. (3) in reviewing step. Students continue their paragraphs. Students required to go through the content of their writing, looking for improvement. (4) in the editing step. Students to purify their final draft by examining the mechanics of writing such as spelling, punctuation, writing format, grammatical rules. (5) the last in publishing step, students publish their paragraphs on the group in WhatsApp.
The study interpreted that alternative hypothesis (ha) stated that there is significant effect of WhatsApp Group in writing argumentative essay and students’ motivation at fourth semester English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya was accepted and the null hypothesis (ho) there is no effect of WhatsApp Group in writing argumentative essay and students’ motivation at fourth semester English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya was rejected. It meant that there is the significant effect of WhatsApp Group towards writing ability and motivation in writing an argumentative essay at the fourth semester English Department of IAIN Palangka Raya.

ABSTRACT

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek dari Group WhatsApp Terhadap Kemampuan Siswa dan Motivasi Belajar dalam Menulis Siswa Semester 4 Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka Raya tahun angkatan 2017/2018. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 4 Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka Raya, dengan sampel 46 mahasiswa. Untuk menganalisa data, peneliti menggunakan One-Way ANOVA dengan cara menggambarkan hasil data yang diperoleh.
Ada beberapa langkah dalam menulis argumentatif esay diantaranya (1) proses sebelum penulisan. Siswa pada kelas eksperimen mempersiapkan/ menginstal aplikasi WhatsApp. (2) proses strategi penulisan awal. Siswa fokus pada ide gambaran umum mengenai informasi, kemudian ide tersebut dimasukkan pada Grup WhatsApp (3) proses peninjauan ulang tulisan. Siswa melanjutkan ide/gambaran umum dalam sebuah esai. (4) proses edit penulisan ulang. Siswa memeriksa kembali dengan memperhatikan aspek dalam menulis tanda baca, penulisan, dan struktur penulisan. (5) proses penulisan tulisan terakhir. Siswa menerbitkan atau mengupload tulisan esai ke dalam grup WhatsApp.
Hasil penelitian ini menghasilkan alternatif hipothesis (ha) ada hubungan efek dari penggunaan Grup WhatsApp terhadap kemampuan menulis argumentatif siswa dan motivasi belajar dalam menulis siswa semester 4 Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka Raya adalah diterima atau signifikan dan null hipothesis (ho) tidak ada hubungan efek dari penggunaan Grup WhatsApp terhadap kemampuan menulis argumentatif siswa dan motivasi belajar dalam menulis siswa semester 4 Bahasa Inggris di IAIN Palangka Raya adalah ditolak. Disimpulkan bahwa dalam penelitian.
