Abstract

This study is expected to give useful information about student teachers’ motivation of choosing English education study program of IAIN Palangka Raya. From the information given, the English lecturer can evaluate whether student teachers’ motivation of choosing English education study program of IAIN Palangka Raya. In addition, the result of this research can be used as a reference for further researcher who is interested in conducting similar study.
The research design of this study was survey research. In survey research, investigators asked questions about peoples’ beliefs, opinion, characteristics, and behavior. Based on Ary (2010, p.372) a survey researcher may want to investigate associations between respondents’ characteristic such as age, education, social class, race, and their current attitudes toward some issues.
Based on the result of the research, all students have positive perception or “agree” toward learning English for obtaining jobs and communication. Survey proved that peers and family members also seemed to play a part when it came to making a decision on their major. Student teachers’ chose their major because of their interest in the subject, it is also important that they experience comfort with that major.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi yang berguna tentang motivasi belajar siswa untuk memilih program pendidikan bahasa Inggris IAIN Palangka Raya. Dari informasi yang diberikan, dosen bahasa Inggris dapat mengevaluasi apakah motivasi guru memilih kursus pendidikan bahasa Inggris IAIN Palangka Raya. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan acuan bagi peneliti lebih lanjut yang tertarik untuk melakukan studi serupa.
Rancangan dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian survey. Dalam sebuah studi survei, para peneliti mengajukan pertanyaan tentang kepercayaan, pendapat, karakteristik, dan perilaku masyarakat. Berdasarkan Ary (2010, p.372), seorang peneliti survei mungkin ingin menyelidiki hubungan antara karakteristik responden seperti usia, pendidikan, kelas sosial, ras, dan sikap saat ini terhadap beberapa masalah.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, semua siswa memiliki persepsi positif atau "setuju" belajar bahasa Inggris untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan dan komunikasi. Survei membuktikan bahwa teman dan anggota keluarga juga tampak berperan saat membuat keputusan tentang jurusan mereka. Mahasiswa memilih jurusan mereka karena minat mereka terhadap subjek, penting juga bagi mereka merasa
nyaman dengan jurusan ini.
